Buddy holly’s efficient and timeless love songs are a key progenitor of mccartney’s simple love plaints. This is a great song, and the beatles don’t ruin it.
Introducing the beatles is the first studio album released by the english rock band the beatles in the united states. Originally scheduled for a july 1963 release, the lp came out on 10 january 1964, on vee-jay records , ten days before capitol 's meet the beatles!. The latter album, however, entered the u. S. Album chart one week before the former. Consequently, when meet the beatles! peaked at no. 1 for eleven consecutive weeks, introducingthe beatles stalled at no. 2 where it remained nine consecutive weeks. It was the subject of much legal wrangling, but ultimately, vee-jay was permitted to sell the album until late 1964, by which time it had sold more than 1. 3 million copies. On 24 july 2014 the album was certified gold and platinum by the riaa.
Mostly paul mccartney’s work. A tribute to lonely people, remarkable in its use of string musicians (violin) while the beatles don’t play a single instrument. A major turning point in band’s transition (already underway) from standard pop to deeper, reflective creations. Ranked 137 on rolling stone’s top 500 greatest songs of all time list.
Album history and counterfeit detection perhaps the most distinctive component in the history of beatles records is the album introducing the beatles (vee-jay vjlp/sr-1062). This eccentric lp is distinctive on many fronts, not the least of which is that its dozen tracks have proliferated into over two dozen subsequent albums and singles. This early 1964 product of chicago's vee-jay label competed heartily in.

(vjlp-1062) released january 10th, 1964 vee jay records had the historic privilege of releasing the very first beatles album in the united states. Vee jay records was a successful black label based in chicago which boasted its major successes with r&b, blues and soul records. By 1962, they had grown in strength enough to include popular music artists, most notably the four seasons, and had multiple placements in the billboard hot 100 to its credit.
We heard the outcry when we repromoted our list of most-skippable beatles tracks , so here’s a celebration of some of our favorites. Over the course of their eight-year existence, the beatles released 27 studio albums, churning out lps like help, rubber soul, and revolver within the space of a single year. Those albums were made up in part by some of the group’s 237 original songs, and 20 of those songs went to no. 1 on the billboard charts. Still, not every beatles song shines brightly. Some are better than others, and after decades of nearly constant play on oldies radio, in commercials, on soundtracks, and in the general ether that surrounds each and every one of us, even the most diehard beatles fans are bound to get tired of some cuts. Below, the a. V. Club runs through its list of beatles songs we’ll never skip, from “all my loving†to “yesterday. †unlike in other a. V. To z lists, not every letter is represented this time around, but we think that’s okay.
Allmusic review by stephen thomas erlewine back in 2004, apple/capitol released the capitol albums, vol. 1 , a four-disc box that issued the beatles ' original u. S. Albums from 1964 ( meet the beatles! , the beatles' second album , something new , beatles '65 ) on cd for the first time ever. A second volume, released roughly 18 months later, collected the 1965 records ( the early beatles , beatles vi , help! , rubber soul ), but a third volume rounding up the rest of the u. S. -exclusive albums -- yesterdayand today and revolver , both from 1966, plus the odd 1970 compilation hey jude -- never materialized. Three years after the capitol albums, vol. 2 , a lavish reissue campaign of superb remasters of the beatles ' u. K. Catalog appeared, the first true sonic upgrade to the beatles ' catalog since their initial release in 1987 -- remasters that easily overshadowed the somewhat better sound on the capitol albums boxes. The 2009 remasters were a rousing success, especially in mono box, which offered mini-lp replicas of every mono album from the fabs , and that opened the door for the 2014 release of the u. S. Albums , a 13-disc box that has mini-lp replicas of all eight albums that appeared on the 2004 and 2006 boxes, plus the three aforementioned stragglers and two 1964 oddities: the united artists release of the soundtrack for a hard day's night and the pseudo-documentary lp the beatles story. Here's where things get interesting for trainspotters. Apart from the beatles' story , which has been drawn from existing masters in the vaults, nearly everything here has been brought up to the 2009 standards, usually using those celebrated remasters instead of the cavernous echo that characterized the americanized albums shepherded by capitol exec dave dexter. Fun, interesting alternates remain -- notably the botched intro to "i'm looking through you" on the stereo mix of rubber soul -- but the terrible fake stereo mixes that characterized the original u. S. Releases and were indeed preserved in the capitol albums box sets have been replaced with tapes that sound excellent. This may not pull on the heartstrings for nostalgic baby boomers -- they'll have to settle for the set's exquisite packaging, including a yesterdayand today with a peel-away cover that reveals the original butcher cover -- in the way that the dexter-ized mixes would have, but it's hard to argue against the use of the 2009 remasters, as this is the best the beatles have ever sounded. And not only does this sound good, it looks good, so it's a handsome way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of beatlemania, although anybody who owns the 2009 boxes in addition to the 2004 and 2006 sets may find it hard to justify another purchase.
Originating as a skiffle group, the beatles quickly embraced 1950s rock and roll and helped pioneer the merseybeat genre, and their repertoire ultimately expanded to include a broad variety of pop music. Reflecting the range of styles they explored, lennon said of beatles for sale, "you could call our new one a beatles country-and-western lp", while gould credits rubber soul as "the instrument by which legions of folk-music enthusiasts were coaxed into the camp of pop".
This is the big one. The beatles anthology is made up of three different parts, each its own double album, and the whole set is a treasure trove of outtakes, alternate versions, plus in-studio banter between paul, john, george, and ringo. Anthology spans the band's entire career; start with anthology 1 and you'll be thrust straight into beatlemania. Anthology 2 digs into the rubber soul and revolver era, and anthology 3 covers the white album through the band's breakup.
Originally rooted in skiffle and 1950s rock and roll music, the group embraced pop music in their early years (" she loves you ", " i want to hold your hand "), but began to branch out into different genres, including folk rock (help!, rubber soul ), country (" act naturally ", " don't pass me by ") and psychedelia ( sgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band , magical mystery tour ). Their 1968 self-titled album (also known as the "white album") in particular featured a wide range of styles, including ska (" ob-la-di, ob-la-da "), blues (" yer blues "), hard rock (" helter skelter " and the single version of " revolution "), and a musique concrète sound collage (" revolution 9 "). The group also composed numerous ballads , including " michelle " and " the long and winding road ". During their career, the beatles introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Some of these include one of the first uses of guitar feedback in music (" i feel fine "), the first use of a fade-in in a pop song (" eight days a week "), use of tape loops (" tomorrow never knows "), using the recording studio as an instrument ( revolver and sgt. Pepper) and popularising the indian sitar in pop music (" norwegian wood "); harrison further embraced indian music on songs such as " love you to ", " within you without you " and " the inner light ". Abbey road (1969) featured prominent use of the moog synthesiser and the leslie speaker , along with a medley of song fragments edited together to form a single piece.
^ alternatively, george case, writing in his book out of our heads, identifies rubber soul as marking "the authentic beginning of the psychedelic era". Among other commentators, joe harrington says that the beatles' first "psychedelic experiments" appear on the 1965 album, and christopher bray recognises the rubber soul track " the word " as inaugurating the group's "high psychedelic period".
One of my favorite nerdy fanboy exercises is exploring the parallels between radiohead’s catalog and the beatles discography. Like most analogies, it’s highly imperfect, but this one is at least a little instructive. The most egregious stretch is lumping everything before rubber soul into one amorphous teeny-bopping mass and comparing that to radiohead’s half-baked debut pablo honey. After that it starts to hang together: the bends is rubber soul (a huge step forward, but still a straightforward guitar-pop record), ok computer is revolver (the game-changer), kid a is sgt. Pepper (the epochal ostensible concept album), hail to the thief is the white album (the overstuffed epic), in rainbows is abbey road (the joyous curtain call), and the king of limbs is let it be (the less-than-joyous curtain call). This all assumes that radiohead won’t make another album — and i certainly hope they will, at which point the the comparison will fall apart for good. [editor’s note: they did! ] in the meantime, it’s remarkable how well that all lines up in a dark side of the moon/wizard of oz type of way. So where does that leave magical mystery tour? it’s amnesiac, the forgotten stepchild of the canon. Just like amnesiac isn’t exactly a kid a sequel, magical mystery tour isn’t exactly a sgt. Pepper sequel, but both pepper and mystery are built around a colorful conceptual conceit, and both of them boast the blending of traditional and forward-thinking influences. They also came out just a few months apart, so like amnesiac, it’s hard not to see magical mystery tour as leftovers from what came before it — albeit exceptionally tasty leftovers.
Favorite track: “i’m a loser†beatles for sale is often cited as a maturation of the beatles due to its somber cover art and its deeper lyrics and production tone, a reflection of the influence of bob dylan and folk music on the band. Still, it is of a kind with the band’s early albums, (by which i mean pre-rubber soul), and its covers are rendered with creativity once again. The original tracks, like “i’m a loser,†do have a slightly different groove to them, while staying lively in a new mode. If i sound vague, it’s because i’m not really a trained music writer in spite of my recent work and because beatles for sale is kind of a curious, generally overlooked album in the band’s discography. It’s hard for me to point to any one reason why the record feels different than, say, the albums it’s sandwiched between (a hard day’s night and help!), besides that it’s better.
One of the most dreaded e-mails a beatles dealer or expert can receive goes something like this: “i just got my mom’s copy of introducing the beatles that she purchased back when she was a kid. What’s it worth?†of course, there is no simple way to answer such a question. Before determining the value, you might have to go through a dozen or more questions. Information, prices and images of introducing the beatles are spread over four pages in perry cox & frank daniels’ price guide for the beatles american records.
One of the problems about introducing your kids to the beatles is assuming that the very obviously “kid-friendly†songs are the ones you should listen to. And while i admit that many children do love “yellow submarine,†or “octopus’s garden,†or “all together now,†let’s face facts. These songs are not cool, and by no means represent why the beatles are dead-ass one of the coolest rock bands of all time. In other words, those three songs are kind of dopey. (you can throw in “good morning, good morning†and “goodnight†while you’re at it. ).
By william ruhlmann the first beatles album released in the u. S. , introducingthe beatles is a slightly abridged version of please please me , which had been released in the u. K. Four months earlier. It includes two fewer tracks than its british counterpart, deleting "please please me" and "ask me why. " today, of course, there's no reason to prefer it to please please me , which was released in the u. S. In 1987, but from 1963 to 1965, when capitol records belatedly released the material on the early beatles , this (plus some inferior vee jay repackagings) was the only american album containing some of the beatles ' initial recordings.
The beatles us album - introducing the beatles by john t. Marck take a look at the very first beatles' album released in the united states. Oh look out! the beatles us album collection part 1 on july 22, 1963, vee jay records released what was the first beatles' album in america. It was released in two versions;.
The 1964 album, featuring the songs 'love me do & p. S. I love you' (vee jay vjlps-1062) was stated to be in near mint condition with its original sears baggy style wrapping and price sticker. Why's it rare? the record, 'introducing the beatles' by vee-jay records is known as the first beatles album released in the united states. Apparently [ 1 ], it was originally scheduled for release in july of 1963, but was delayed by legal issues until january 1964. The albums release reportedly came just ten-days before capitol records 'meet the beatles!'.
Does your copy of introducing the beatles have a stereophonic banner across the top of the front cover? if so, chances are 98. 4 to 1 you have a knock-off of the original 1964 vee jay album. Does it have a black label with silver print and/or do the words the beatles appear below the record's spindle hole? yup, you've got a bootleg. Listen to your stereo "introducing" with headphones. Is it in mono? alas, it's a pirate copy.

For fans primarily in the us the story behind this particular album is part of legend and lore. Emi signed the beatles in 1963 but their us division capitol were allowed to be the first to decide against signing them there so brian epstein chose chicago-based indie r&b label vee jay records (in a package deal with crooner frank ifield) was chosen despite being fiscally unstable as it turns out. Because please please me/ask me why was made a stand-alone single and a dozen songs on an album in the states was standard in those days the name introducing the beatles was coined. Earlier bios like the beatles forever stated that the album came out in july 1963 but that wasn't the case due to money woes and late payment of royalty fees to transglobal (emis licence company) delayed release for six months time just as capitol changed their minds and notified their attorneys and the girls shrieked for more! a compromise was reached in court and two reissues were made until that fall when the rights reverted to capitol and the vee jay album went out of print (a former employee claims that they made their own pirate copies in the '70s despite obviously violating the judges orders). Counterfeits hit the black market several years later and printing errors and designs on the sleeve, dead wax and label indicate to collectors whether or not their copy is for real. True copies are scarce as hens teeth and that goes double for stereo. I just have a real songs, pictures and stories edition (phonies of that are even more subtle due to the difficult to duplicate die-cut gatefold of the genuine article) as my old copy of introducing disappeared as did stories before that which i felt was more appropriate to replace. I also have copies of please please me as well as the early beatles, capitols answer to introducing with more cut and paste which was normal back then as we all know by now.

Covers printed by coburn & company, an offset printing firm in chicago. Summary sheets for the first quarter of 1964 indicate that 79,169 mono and 2,202 stereo copies of introducing the beatles were shipped to distributors during the first fifteen days of the year befor sales were abruptly halted by the temporary injunction prohibiting vee-jay from issuing beatles product. It is estimated that an additional five to ten thousand copies of version one.

Do yourself a favor. Go on to ebay or another site that sells beatles lp’s. I searched for weeks and got an early parlophone “release day†pressing of please please me from the uk for $280. It plays nicely but is far from perfect. I’m sure it was played several hundreds of times in the early 60’s. It’s a heavy weight vinyl lp in mono. That’s whats so good about it. Stereo ones are a more pricey but did not come out on march 22, 1963 like the “mono†lp. I think it was 2 weeks after? the early ones have all “dick james music†credit. Make sure they are the “black with gold printing†lp’s. (black with yellow printing are not first pressing). It’s hard to say an exact print day but it’s a “1†mother and “6†stamper. Also, they were not any counterfeits of these made in comparison to “introducing the beatlesâ€. I bought my copy of introducing the beatles in 1983 for $5. I thought it was real but no. Fake. I recently gave it to a friend. Good luck but make sure you research before you buy. A word of advice: if you are interested in putting down big money for a “rare†beatles lp or 45, remember, millions of their records were sold. A lp beatles record may be “rare†but still have thousands out there.
Maybe you've lugged your stack of '60s vinyl through one too many moves. Or maybe you've seen the "antiques roadshow" episode where a woman learns her "butcher cover" beatles album, bought at sears for $3. 98 in 1966, was worth thousands, and sold at auction for more than $10,000. That kind of rarity isn't in every collection, but if you do the research, you can tell what your records might be worth in today's market.

But very few bands ever had an impact on modern music like the beatles did. Did you know that between 1962 and 1970 that over two dozen beatles albums were released. Most beatles records both 45's and albums are worth nearly $100 in perfect condition. Perfect condition means that the record has been played very little if at all and all the album or 45's cover or sleeve is in nearly perfect condition. The newer and better condition its in the higher price it will bring. Even a little damage or dirt can bring the price down. If the record has been played a lot you may just want to keep it and play it yourself.
All of which proved to be a great boon to harrison. He immediately assembled a studio band consisting of starr, guitarist eric clapton , keyboardist billy preston and others to record all of the songs that had never made it on to the beatles catalog. The result was 1970's three-disc album, all things must pass. While one of its signature songs, "my sweet lord," was later deemed too similar in style to the the chiffons earlier hit "he's so fine," forcing the guitarist to cough up nearly $600,000, the album as a whole remains harrison's most acclaimed record.
Brian epstein was invited to be the manager of the beatles in november 1961. His diplomatic way of dealing with the beatles and with their previous manager resulted in a december 10, 1961, meeting, where it was decided that epstein would manage the band. A 5-year management contract was signed by four members at then-drummer pete best's home on january 24, 1962. Epstein did not put his signature on it, giving the musicians the freedom of choice. At that time mccartney and harrison were under 21, so the paper wasn't technically legal. None of them realized this and it did not matter to them. What mattered was their genuine trust in epstein. He changed their early image for the good. Brian epstein made them wear suits and ties, classic shoes, and newer haircuts. They were advised to update their manners on stage and quit eating and drinking in public. Brian epstein worked hard on both gift ideas for the beatles lover the beatles present gifts for the beatles lovers ' image and public relations. He improved their image enough to make them accepted by the conservative media. Most if not all of their communication off-stage was managed by brian epstein.
The first time the boys played ‘all you need is love’ was on the international television event, our world, and had one of the biggest audiences of all time for a song’s first performance. The event was transmitted across 31 countries via satellite and had the beatles performing to friends who were sat on the floor around the band. Members of the friend-filled audience included eric clapton, keith richards and mick jagger. Despite the impressive audience, the song ‘all you need is love’ didn’t even exist two weeks before the show was due to air. Of course, in true beatles style, with less than two weeks, they still decided to create an elaborately orchestrated and brand new track. Whilst the rhythm track was pre-recorded in a studio for the show, they sang live on the show with a full orchestra and a chorus. As lennon was aware the song would be played internationally when creating it, he wanted to create a simple and clear message that the whole of the world would understand – and it did just that: the message that all you need is love could transcend across the world over.
In 1965 queen elizabeth ii appointed all four beatles members of the order of the british empire (mbe). At that time the honour was primarily given to military veterans and civic leaders. Hence a controversy erupted and in protest some conservative mbe recipients returned their own honour. John lennon justified their inclusion by saying, “lots of people who complained about us receiving the mbe received theirs for heroism in the war – for killing people… we received ours for entertaining other people. I’d say we deserve ours more. â€.
A list of all 212 beatles' songs and covers officially released on record between 1962 and 1970 by ger tillekens the official beatles' canon covers all songs the beatles recorded and authorized for publication in their years as a performing group. In those years between 1962 and 1970 the beatles released 219 songs or song variants, which are listed below in order of appearance. In this list there are 24 covers (c), and 1 traditional (t), leaving us with up to 194 released recordings of original beatles' songs. Among those 194 we find 9 song variations and 1 song fragment. Of those 10 performances most authors of beatles' books and commentaries discard 7 tracks as just variants or invalid members of the beatles' songbook, leaving us with exactly 187 canonical beatles' originals, 24 covers and 1 traditional: a total of 212 songs. The beatles were an english rock-pop band, started in liverpool , england in 1960. The members were john lennon , paul mccartney , george harrison , and ringo starr. Most people say they are the most successful and influential band in the history of popular music. The group were a main part of the creation of 1960s counterculture. They began as a skiffle and beat band and were influenced by 1950s american rock and roll. They later used parts of classical music and indian music.
Released september 26 1969 abbey road was not the beatles final album as let it be followed in 1970 but it was the last one john paul george and ringo recorded together as a band. 188 originals and 25 covers. The beatles greatest hits full album the beatles playlist.
Formed around the nucleus of lennon and mccartney, who first performed together in liverpool in 1957, the group grew out of a shared enthusiasm for american rock and roll. Like most early rock-and-roll figures, lennon, a guitarist and singer, and mccartney, a bassist and singer, were largely self-taught as musicians. Precocious composers, they gathered around themselves a changing cast of accompanists, adding by the end of 1957 harrison, a lead guitarist, and then, in 1960 for several formative months, sutcliffe, a promising young painter who brought into the band a brooding sense of bohemian style. After dabbling in skiffle , a jaunty sort of folk music popular in britain in the late 1950s, and assuming several different names (the quarrymen, the silver beetles, and, finally, the beatles), the band added a drummer, best, and joined a small but booming “beat music†scene, first in liverpool and then, during several long visits between 1960 and 1962, in hamburg —another seaport full of sailors thirsty for american rock and roll as a backdrop for their whiskey and womanizing.
“the white album†was a neat little concept. Actually, it was a sprawling mess that defies concept, but still: clever idea to roll this one out when they did. Fifty years ago this thursday, in one of those left turns we’ve come to expect from history’s game-changing rock bands, the beatles followed up sgt. Pepper’s lonely hearts club band — widely viewed as the dawn of the album era, in which lps were conceived not as a collection of singles but a cohesive artistic statement — with a self-titled splatter of ideas spanning two discs and countless stylistic permutations.

The beatles were an english rock band formed in liverpool in 1960, and one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music. The group's best-known lineup consisted of john lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), paul mccartney (bass guitar, vocals), george harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and ringo starr (drums, vocals).
‘twist and shout’ introducing the beatles was the first beatles album to be released in the united states. It was issued on 10 january 1964 by vee-jay records. The album contained twelve of the fourteen songs on the band’s first uk album please please me. Initial copies omitted ‘please please me’ and ‘ask me why’, but those songs replaced ‘love me do’ and ‘ps i love you’ on later pressings from february 1964 onwards.
May 29, 2017 8:45 am it was 50 years ago today … indeed, in the united states, beatles released sgt. Pepper’s lonely hearts club band on june 1, 1967. It was instantly one of rock’s greatest and most progressive albums, and another sign that john lennon, paul mccartney, george harrison and ringo starr had officially put their mop-top fab four days behind them.
The beatles hold the records for the most number-one hits to top the billboard hot 100 with twenty. In 1988, the beatles were inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. The beatles’ name is a play on words stemming from the word beetle, rather beatles. This was a tribute to buddy holly and the crickets.
Perhaps the most distinctive component in the history of beatles records is the album introducing the beatles (vee jay vjlp/sr-1062). This eccentric lp is distinctive on many fronts, not the least of which is that its dozen tracks have proliferated into over two dozen subsequent albums and singles. This summer 1963 product of chicago's vee jay label competed heartily in the marketplace, right along with the big boys over at capitol. As a small, independent company with a big hit record on their hands, vee jay and their vendors worked around the clock to meet the enormous demand for this lp. For the last few months of '63, this was the only beatles album available for purchase in american shops. Although a huge seller, its sales life was cut very short by the courts, when, in early 1965, the rights to all of the beatles recordings were turned over to capitol/emi.
Cry for a shadow (harrison-lennon) this shadows-esque guitar instrumental was apparently written by lennon and harrison as an improvised take on the shadows’ recent hit, “man of mysteryâ€, which rory storm tried to teach them by whistling, before losing his way and giving up – leaving the two beatles to continue jamming under their own direction. By this route they devised a completely new tune.
The beatles became very famous in britain. People started calling the excitement over the band beatlemania. The beatles became wildly popular in the united states too after appearing on ed sullivan’s television program in february 1964. Teenage girls across the country screamed and fainted over them, and boys copied the beatles’ look. By april 1964 the top five hits in the united states were all beatles songs.
Artist biography a record setting 73 million people tuned in that evening making it one of the seminal moments in television history. Nearly fifty years later, people still remember exactly where they were the night the beatles stepped onto ed sullivan’s stage. In the weeks leading up to the performance, several beatles records had already hit number one on the u. S. Charts, and the radio airwaves were saturated with their tunes. The delirium and ground swell of anticipation surrounding the beatles’ arrival from england had not been seen around since elvis presley on the ed sullivan show in 1956. But even that experience could not have prepared the sullivan staff and the new york city authorities for what was about to happen.

On october 5th, 1962 – more than 50 years ago – the beatles’ first major hit song was released, “love me do. â€it was recorded by the famous group during some of their first sessions at emi’s abbey road studios in london during june and september 1962. Emi was then regarded as one of the most prestigious recording companies in the u. K. , and the beatles, through the persistent efforts of their manager, brian epstein, were fortunate to even have had a chance with emi.
There are always highs and lows when it comes to love and the beatles covered it all. Considered the first solo performance of the band, paul's beautiful vocals and acoustic guitar still give us chills 50 years after its release. The melancholy ballad of heartbreak finds mccartney wishing he go could back in time to when he was with his love. Fun fact: "yesterday" is the " most recorded song " and one of the most covered songs in the history of recorded music.

November 9, 2018 10:00 am fifty years ago this month, the beatles made a splash with their self-titled album, which came to be known as the white album due to its minimalist cover. On friday, the band released a deluxe version of the groundbreaking double album, filled with outtakes, demos and remastered versions of the songs.
Meeting bob dylan is a big deal for anyone and the beatles were just the same. After the fab four met up with the freewheelin’ troubadour they were inspired to pursue songwriting as a finer art than they ever had before. Now, instead of making songs to top the charts, they wanted to make music to express themselves and they responded by putting their own lives into the music. It was a moment that would change the band forever. Featuring tracks like ‘norwegian wood’ and ‘nowhere man’, the lp is seen as a breakout moment and happens to be george harrison’s favourite to boot.
Photo © apple corps ltd (via beatles facebook ) tweet no matter how many times you listen to the beatles, there's always something new to discover. They're the most popular, acclaimed, and influential band of all time, and it's impossible to overhype them; all the praise they've been given for the past 50+ years is deserved and then some. It's still astonishing what they achieved with just seven years worth of studio albums, from the countless hit songs to the massive evolution they underwent to their groundbreaking innovations in both songwriting and technology. They've released their fair share of best-ofs, but when it comes to the beatles, you really don't need one. They really don't have songs that aren't well known; even many of the songs that were never released as singles feel more popular than plenty of bands' biggest hits. Every single one of their studio albums are essential (as are several of their other records, like the past masters compilations, which include many of their most iconic non-album songs), and it's actually kind of hard to talk about the "best of" their catalog. The easiest answer is: "all of it. ".
Prior to the beginning of this second main section’s first chapter, pictures from vee-jay’s catalog are shown, featuring a list and photos of artists appearing on vee-jay records. For the beatles, pictures from 1962 are shown (with george sporting a black eye). The first chapter in the albums section is titled vee-jay vjlp 1062 – introducing the beatles (version one) and is the book’s longest chapter. This first beatles album for the american market is appropriately compared to ‘ please please me ‘, the first uk beatles album. As with the book’s chapters on vee-jay’s beatles singles, for these albums details are provided on their release and chart history, and concerning ‘introducing the beatles†tracks, details on their release history, performances, and availability are shared. For tracks which are covers, information about their original versions, including pictures of those releases, are provided. Of course, label variations and the use of spizer’s numbering system are a big part of this chapter. Highlights include the uncovering of a more accurate release date for the album, speculation on ‘young people’s introduction to hebrew and beatles music’ 🙂 , and interesting comments on two phil spector -produced singles.
One of the recurring themes that we have brought to the rock 'n roll case study are "lost" albums by major rock 'n roll artists. In this installment we will discuss the original beatles 1969 "get back" album, which eventually saw official release as the "let it be" album a year later in a much modified form. Entire books have been written on the subject of the "get back" project, so this essay will be just a reader's-digest version, with a quick overview of what happened and why.
When the " please please me " single was issued in the united states, vee-jay records signed a licensing agreement with transglobal, an emi affiliate that worked to place foreign masters with u. S. Record labels, giving it the right of first refusal on beatles records for five years. As part of that agreement, vee-jay planned to release the please please me album in the u. S. , and received copies of the mono and stereo master tapes in late april or early may 1963.

Vinyl is hotter than ever, and while many of the biggest stars of the day go out of their way to not only release their new titles on wax but also promote them heavily, nobody could outsell some of the greatest legends who have ever recorded music. In 2017, the beatles score not just the bestselling vinyl title, but the top two, which is an incredible feat considering the band hasn’t released anything new in decades. Coming in first place is sgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band, which sold 72,000 records last year. That’s still a small sum when it comes to album sales across formats, but those kinds of numbers haven’t been seen in decades when looking solely at vinyl.
The beatles released 13 albums during their seven-year recording career. Almost every single one of them is a masterpiece. It helped that the group came of age during one the most fertile periods for music in the past couple hundred years. It also helped that the band included two of the best songwriters of the 20th century – and a third who wasn't too bad either.

the beatles are one the most influential rock bands in the history of music. The glorious story of this ensemble started in 1956 when john lennon and paul mccartney began their joint concert activity in liverpool. Later, they were joined by george harrison. The forth member of the band they formed was peter best. However, in 1962 he was replaced by ringo starr. In the beginning, they were not different from scores of other liverpool bands performing at pubs and small venues. The music they played first was a blend of rock-n-roll and simplified jazz. The beatles tasted popularity first in germany. They moved in hamburg in 1960 and became the main performers at one of the local clubs. In 1961, the band found a new manager. It was brian epstein, a music store owner, who worked with them up to his dying day in 1967. He changed their image substituting leather coats with expensive strict suits. Their debut album, please please me (1963) featured three smashing hits and immediately made the musicians new national heroes. After their participation in a row of american tv shows along with the film a hard day’s night with their own soundtrack, the beatles turned into international superstars. Paul and john were the leading creative power of the band. These two worked hard enough to produce two or three monumental albums per year, apart from multitudes of worthy records left unreleased.
Release history[ edit ] originally scheduled for 1 august 1964, the album was rush-released on 20 july 1964, ten days after the british release of a hard day's night. It was released in both mono and stereo versions. All mono mixes of the five songs duplicated from the united artists soundtrack album are identical on both releases. Something new was the only early capitol beatles album to contain all tracks in true stereo. The mono release contains alternative versions of " any time at all " (a different mix during the instrumental bridge), " i'll cry instead " (with the "missing" third verse), " when i get home " (the line "till i walk out that door again" during the song's bridge has a different vocal passage from the uk mono mix), " if i fell " (lennon's non-double-tracked introductory vocal), and " and i love her " (mccartney's non-double-tracked vocal).
