Hi there, i have a new band and as lead singer i find myself in a position to have to front the band. It is a daunting prospect. In my last bands there were very confident males who naturally took the role (even though not lead singers), one was a bass player, the other was guitarist. As a woman now fronting a band, i am finding it very difficult to come up with a front person ‘personna’ , because after all – it is all an act! i would love other’s advice here, all i have been able to come up with is a type of formula that i can apply where ever we go ie; talk positively about the venue/town, if it is an occasion, talk about the occasion, throughout the first set introduce various band members in an informal way (i always think it is slightly contrived to stand up at the start and introduce everyone, but after (say) a song with a very cool drum arrangement, it is nice to credit to the drummer and introduce at the same time), if the first set is slower than the next, pre-empt their question by letting them know to relax, have a drink and enjoy the sounds, in order to be ready to dance shortly! if doing covers, a little bit of trivia about the band or song your covering is always good too. Good humour about the band mates (ie making fun of each other) is better than picking on someone in the crowd. One of things i am trying to work out at the moment is how we can be dynamic as a band all together rather than just rely on me. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions – please tell me!.
