The only other musical road in the u. S. Can be found in lancaster, california, where a snippet of the "william tell overture†plays for drivers going 55 mph. (sorry, sammy hagar. ) the attraction was originally installed near a residential area, but citizens complained so much that the grooves were paved over just two weeks after they were installed. The city received hundreds of phone calls from people who missed the lone ranger theme song and eventually agreed to reinstall the strips in an industrial area where it wouldn’t bother residents. Oh, the musical road of lancaster, what is there to say about you. I was very excited to conquer your quarter-mile of road, but left slightly unimpressed. Anyways, when researching lancaster, i found stumbled on the musical road, and apparently it is the only musical road in the entire united states. By musical road, i mean a road that literally has grooves cut into it and plays the william tell overture as you drive over it. It sounded awesome to me, so i set out to try it.
Directions to the musical road the musical road is located just west of 30th st. West on avenue g in the city of lancaster. Below is a map of the vicinity. Take the �avenue �g� exit off of ca highway 14 (exits run alphabetically north to south starting at avenue �a� at the kern county/los angeles county line in the north). Head west on ave g and when the road branches into three lanes get in the far left (#1) lane. The musical road begins not far after you pass 30th st. West.

We were headed from albuquerque to santa fe last weekend, so we decided to check this road out as it sounded interesting. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are no signs so you need to use gps. We were going 45 mph, and as i was watching the gps all of a sudden we heard faint musical noise. We turned around and went through two more times. The tune was broken and wasn't what i thought it would be. A little underwhelming, but i'm glad we found it as it is definitely a novelty. If you're headed this way i'd say check it out, if you have to go out of your way i'd say pass. I'm sure it was better back in the day. ….
