Fingerstyle Guitar Technique: Fingerpicking
The pick can be a guitarist’s best friend. It’s small, easy to get your fingers around and awesome at producing a clear, crisp tone. Most guitarists will end up using a pick at some stage, but on the off chance you find yourself without one, it can be good to know what to do. For this article, i will be focusing more on another technique known as fingerpicking.

As we’ve said in the 1st part of this article , resting your pinky is a quick way to stabilize your hand. So let’s look at what to pay attention to when playing that way. There is really not much to it position-wise. The point of contact will change depending on your hand size and angle at which you pluck the strings with your fingers. Best advice i could give here is to look for what works for you.
When playing fingerstyle, position your hand so the fingers are perpendicular to the strings so you can strike the stings easily. To do this, the thumb should be in-front of the fingers (closer to the headstock). This hand positioning is very important for several fingerstyle techniques. The classical hand position rests the fingers on the strings that they play. Since the thumb is used for strings 4, 5, and 6, it usually rests on the 5th or 6th string.
